Abstract:

Archive of photographic negatives, work prints, project files, exhibition prints, and personal papers of San Francisco Bay Area photographer Cathy Cade. Cade's work documents lesbian and gay life, particularly in Oakland, Berkeley, and San Francisco, chiefly in the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. Activism around various social justice and political causes is a frequent subject. Well represented are San Francisco Gay and Lesbian Freedom Day parades (Gay Pride parades), annual Dyke Marches on Pride weekend, women in the workplace particularly in male-dominated occupations, and lesbian feminist communities. Also present are personal papers, family photographs, and documentation of Cade's experience as a participant in Freedom Summer of the Civil Rights Movement.
